Most online daters are who they say they are, but there are still some scammers out there who prey on the unsuspecting singles with too good to be true profiles designed to lure you in and take advantage of you. Luckily, you are not completely helpless here. There are a couple of simple tricks you can use to check out if either the pictures or dating profile text are scammer profiles.

Profile Text

The best tool for finding out if the profile text someone is using has been stolen from another profile is Google. Believe it or not, the online dating profiles from most dating sites are searchable on Google. If you are worried the profile that you are looking at is fake, just copy and paste a couple of lines from the profile into the Google search bar. If it is a scammer profile, you’ll see several results that show the exact same text on several other dating sites. If that happens, report the profile to the dating site you are using so they can’t take advantage of anyone else.

Profile Photos

There are two great tools for checking if the online dating photos you are looking are real or fake.

Google

Just like with the text, you can just drag an image from a dating site into the search bar of Google Image Search. If it is fake, you’ll start to see the same photo popping up in other places on the net.

Tineye

Tineye.com is a reverse search engine for images. Just copy and paste the URL for the image you are looking at into Tineye’s search bar and it will scour the net looking for copies of it.
